Surfaces are a visible fragment of the invisible insides contained within substances; the rock, gravel, sand, soil, mud, wood, concrete. I fight with surfaces in the hopeless desire to overcome a fragmentary eye, to turn the inside, outside. But as I fight in order to destroy, I also create, like an eternal fractal and an unfolded map. Perhaps this explains my nonsatisfaction with rock crystal; in the end it is a matter of what resists and insists on hiding. Substances are like this; a deep matrix which foment wonder.
